The latest reports show that cocaine production is having a banner year. The area under coca cultivation in Colombia reached the highest ever recorded figure of 171,000 hectares  in 2017. This represents an increase of 25,000 hectares, or 17% compared to 2016. One reason for the additional acreage is that coffee prices are down 38% since the start of 2017.
